Through Halloween, SAVE has promoted LGBT pride by providing members of the community with permission to engage in boundless creative self-expression which is the dominant sentiment that bolsters most LGBTQ rights movements.
Since 1995, SAVE has hosted the LGBTQ community’s largest community gathering to celebrate Halloween. You might ask why. The answer lies in the history of the LGBTQ experience which has been plagued with “the closet”, shame, and social stigma. Through Halloween, SAVE has promoted LGBT pride by providing members of the community with permission to engage in boundless creative self-expression which is the dominant sentiment that bolsters most LGBTQ rights movements.
The SAVE Halloween Ball brings out a variety of creative costumes that emphasizes self-expression and remains a signature event of the organization to use as a day of freedom, self-expression, and creativity. The event includes a costume contest, drag king and queen performances, and performances by various dance and musical artists.
